On December 16th I went to our local Post office in Dunkirk New York and mailed a package to my niece in Wobuan Ma. I talk to the postal worker and asked how much and will it make it to Ma. in time for Christmas. He said both 1st class and express will make it in time. So I chose 1st class and told my niece that there is a package on the way and should reach you before christmas. So Christmas comes and goes and no package delivered. So I called the local post office and explained to them what has happened. The postal worker asked if I paid for a tracking and I replied "no". The postal worker then said "there is nothing I can do for you". This transpired a week after new years. A week goes by and i recieve an envelope adress to Postal Patron from the postal service. Inside was the orginal mailing address on the box and return address that I had writen on the box and nothing else. Also inside the envolpe was a letter that stated this: Dear Postal Customer: The enclosed was found loose in the mail or damaged by mechanical proscessing equipment. We sincerely regret the inconvenience cased by this incident. In the course of processing mail, items occassionally become seperated from the package and may be lost or sustain damage. Plese accept our sincere apologies. To inquire abour missing items, insurance claims or refunds regarding this incident please call: 1-800-ASK-USPS So I called the automated line and could not speak to anyone except for a computer. Frustraited with this situation, I go back to the local post office and spoke with a women there and she was very helpful. She ended up calling someone at one of the disturbution centers and explained to her my situation. She (at the distubtion center maybe Pittsburgh area) informed me that the boxed most likely got crushed and all contents were riped out of the box. She asked for what was contents in the box and I told here 2 teddy bears, 1 homemade blanket, baseball cap, 2 disney shirts, silver cowboy hat pendent, Mickey Mouse and stain glass christmas decoration, personal pictures, Mickey Mouse plastic cup and dog tags from my father. She gave me a claim number CA107417303 and to call back in 48 hours. 48 hours later I call and spoke to a gentlmen and gave him the claim number and explained to him what had happen. He listen to me and says " you talk to so and so ( dont recall her name) and we cannot help you. You will have to go back to your local post office, Good Luck". At this point I'm so frustrated and angry and I decicde to write it off. The only thing that bothers me the most is that United States Postal Service lost my fathers dog tag, everything else can be replaced. I'm writing this now because I see all the ads on TV that the postal service is running to show how they can get your package delievered on time and safe and right now I think that is far from the truth.
