I approached Rogers Communications, as a 30+ year customer, to inquire about getting a discount as a sort of loyalty bonus given that new customers were being offered all sorts of goods and services as incentives.
I was informed that I could have "limited time promotional discounts" and that these would after a year or two. I was told that cancelling my service(s) before the end of the promotion period would mean a cancellation fee would be required.
Upon cancelling my services within the promotion period I discover that Rogers will charge me $20. per month (approximately 50% of my monthly service fee) for every month remaining in the agreed upon "limited time". Rogers states that this is to cancel a "contract".
At no time did Rogers ever mention this being a contractual obligation. As I never signed anything I was unaware of the difference in our interpretation of "limited time promotion" vs contractual obligation. As well Rogers certainly did not mention the exorbitant cancellation fee.
