BMW X3 a very disappointing experience with my first ultimate driving machine | Gripevine
We bought a 2007 x3 with 16,000 miles back on 2008 and it has been on the shop about 8 times. my wifes drives mainlt it to take the kids to school and go to the grocery store. After 4 years the suv has 57,000 miles so on average she does 10,000 miles per year. It has had computer problems, engine overheating and had thermostat and water pum replaced, brake pads replaced at about 31k miles, engine valve cover replaced due to engine oil leaking, It had the engine coils replaced due to engine misfires. Sun roof rails are not working properly. I've spent over $1,400 dollars so far and this is not my first car purchase. I've had 6 domestic company cars that I put 80k miles every two years. I have bought 3 pick up trucks, a suburban and many cars and never had these problems before. BMW dealer and BMW customer service tell me the suv problems are normal. If that is normal and BMW does not stand behind their products BMW is wrong so far, the product is unreliable and does not deliver, is not worth the money. We can't use it for trips because we're afraid it will leave us stranded in the middle of the highway like in the past and we feel cheated by BMW.

You should have done your homework and checked the reviews before buying. Consumer Reports has good reliability ratings and said they couldn't recommend the X3 because it's reliability was Worse than average.
BMW's are horrible when it comes to reliability. stevec1000 is right. Look at consumer reports before your next purchase. Hopefully you don't mind buying Japanese =).
