LIke BB OS7 Im on BB Torch 9800 7. | Gripevine
I go through phones like people go through socks, Now its not that i break the phone or that i am really rough on phones but when a company gives you a replacement device that has been fixed previously it has issues with the handset. When I contacted Rogers Communications for another replacement device the person on the phone made a rather snide comment and when i asked to speak to someone at corporate they were at first hesitant than when i asked for their ID number they quickly passed me through. I'm tired of these companies charging me an arm and a leg, about 250 dollars a month for a student plan with contacts and everything to the US; and than when i have an issue they say SOL here we'll send you another broken device. I appreciate that the device which is broken must be replaced with a similar phone, but sending me 7 Blackberry Torch 9800's is a bit ridiculous, Its not the sliding mechanism its not the camera, its usually the screens or the keyboards while the track pad usually goes first but there are ways around that with the screen. Not one of my phones has ever been returned with a cracked screen or water damage and the problems persist. I feel as if your just sending me the same phones over and over again.

Hey there Christopher. I've experienced simular issues myself with Bell (NorthernTel) and my phones (a Blackberry and an HTC). My phone died after 18 months (which is 6 months out of the one year warranty). My only options were essentially to suck it up... or if I wanted to send the dead Blackberry in to see if it could be repaired, I'd get $50 credit towards a loaner phone (paying the difference out of my pocket for a phone I can't keep). Not to mention the repair costs and what it would have cost me for the repair call (since its out of warranty - somewhere between $40 & $150). And then if the phone was unfix-able, I'd still be out and have to purchase a new phone.
When I dealt with the phone company, there was confusion at the time with the provider and the phone dealer (NorthernTel store) and I was told even if I got another data capable phone, I'd have to pay contract cancellation fees ($300) and an additional data plan cancellation fees ($100). They've since clarified that I'd only have to pay $300 cancellation fees if I started a new contract or went to a different provider.
All I wanted was access to a phone that works. Its still an ongoing process with the HTC phone I purchased outright not working properly either. I can't win. I have to wait until next January (2013) if I want to go to a different provider. Otherwise at the end of the summer I can get an early upgrade. I don't know my phone will last that long. What I don't understand is how the companies can get away with charging consumers for a contract that lasts 3 years and devices that barely last over a year. Perhaps I should plant a Gripe of my own.
Anyway back to your Gripe, I know and understand what it is like to use your cell phone everyday and the hardware just not hold up in quality... not to mention like you say if it is a refurbished device. When I brought this up to my cell provider they told me "phones just aren't made like they used to." Maybe a provider like Koodo or Telus might have a cheaper monthly plan?
I have been so disgusted with Rogers [although Bell is no better], that after my last BB broke [I, too, have been through about 4 'refurbished' phones that last, at most, 3 - 4 months], I deliberately went to the Apple store to buy an iphone. Even though I was still on some ridiculous contract with Rogers, I chose to purchase the new hardware at a place where I was treated as a person, even a valuable person, and where someone actually showed me the basics. A few days later, Rogers called to thank me for upgrading my phone through them. Not that they could care less, but I definitely informed them that the ONLY reason I had chosen to purchase from Apple was so that I didn't have to deal with Rogers. They will not give you an appointment; there are only two stores in Toronto that provide the replacement phones....and obviously, as one who uses her phone 100% of the time for business, I cannot wait 7 - 10 days for them to mail me a phone that will break in a few months anyway.
I like my iphone. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a provider that provides any level of good service. Good luck!
