Canadian Tire "Broke my Car" so that they could charge for the repair work!

Please note that the location where I had the problem is Canadian Tire at Centerpoint Mall. This location does not appear in the list of locations that is presented as part of the Gripevine posting process. In order to post, Gripevine requires that I select a specific store from the options presented. In order to be able to post this gripe, I chose the closest location to the one where I had the problem.

In June 2011, my wife and I moved back to Toronto after living in the USA. We brought both vehicles to Canadian Tire in order to receive the necessary certification. This certification is required before the vehicles can be registered and insured. Canadian Tire is the only local facility where we could obtain this certification. Having had the vehicles fully serviced in the USA weeks before, no problems were expected.

Surprisingly, the technician inspecting our vehicles informed us that the parking brake pads "broke" while they were removing the wheel covers to inspect them. (They had been working fine up until the inspection.) They claim this happened on both vehicles, were not responsible for the damage because of the age of the pads, and that we had to pay for the repair.

We required the vehicles and could not refuse to pay while sorting out this problem. We had no choice but to pay thousands of dollars for unnecessary repairs resulting from their inspection of the vehicles.

To clarify my initial post, the store where I had the problem is Canadian Tire at Centerpoint Mall. This location does not appear in the list of locations that is presented as part of the posting process. In order to post, I was required to make a selection so chose the closest location.

I have heard from the corporate office and they have requested copies of my invoices which have been submitted. They are currently "looking into" the matter.

I intend on updating the post but the system is currently not allowing me to do so.
